Network governance
The Solar Buildings Research Network was launched by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) through its Research Network (now Strategic Network) Grant Program. This program stipulates the development of an administrative structure "appropriate for managing a complex, multidisciplinary, multi-institutional project".
The following components constitute SBRN’s governance framework:
Board of Directors
The Board includes key stakeholder representatives from the academic sector, from industry and government. The Board has fiscal responsibility for all SBRN funds and final authority over all managerial and funding decision-making in the Network
Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee, composed of the four Theme Leaders, plans the SBRN research program, including program content, responsibilities of investigators and budget allocations; it recommends the research program to the Board for its final approval.
Scientific Director and Principal Investigator (Dr. Andreas K. Athienitis)
Dr. Athienitis is the Network leader. He is responsible for directing the scientific development of the Network, overseeing its research and developing with the Scientific Committee the Network Strategic Plan.
Technology Transfer Committee
The vision of the Solar Buildings Research Network’s Technology Transfer Committee (TTC )is to successfully adapt the diverse and creative research activities into constructive forms of information that are useful to consumers, designers, builders, manufacturers, policy makers, researchers and their respective organizations.
Concordia University is the host institution for SBRN's head office and administration.
