John Molson School of Business

Description

An innovative building integrated photovoltaic/thermal (BIPV/T) application has been installed on the new John Molson School of Business (JMSB) at Concordia University in downtown Montréal. The building's façade will use the sun's energy to generate electricity and pre-heat fresh air for the building. BIPV/T systems allow for a lower cost installation of solar technologies, with improved electrical generation efficiencies.

Project Highlights

  • World’s first fully functional architecturally integrated BIPV/T façade that uses high-efficiency distributed air inlet technology.
  • 24.5 kWp electricity generation (largest installation in the province of Québec)
  • 75 kWp of fresh-air solar heating
  • Integration of Canadian technologies and technical expertise
  • Completed December 18, 2008

The JMSB BIPV/T installation was featured on the Discovery Channel show Daily Planet, on April 20 (Episode 156). Click here to see the clip.
